models and assesses cannabis plant emissions serving operators, regulators and communities. Through his work with
BEA, William Vizuete, PhD. seeks to answer the common questions surrounding cannabis plant emissions, including
BVOCs and other odor-causing compounds, at commercial cultivation sites, their impact on air quality and/or
community odor issues as well as terpene drift and potential of impacting neighboring agriculture. BEA provides
critical site-specific emission factor data to empower informed decisions and offer solutions to odor and emission
challenges with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Through commercial cannabis facility assessments,
Byers is continuously expanding its database of strain-specific emissions profiles. Based on the number of strains, plant count, life stage, and estimated plant weight, BEA quantifies a facility’s gas-phase emission rate. Byers
Mitigation Technologies plugs this data into their Cannabis Emissions Profiler™ (CEP) to engineer and install
the proper number of mitigation units based on the exact number of air exchanges required to effectively sequester
the odor molecules before they have a chance to be released to ambient air and potentially be a nuisance to nearby
communities. This process helps to eliminate a perpetual reliance on HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning)
systems in hybrid-greenhouses, warehouses, and indoor cultivation spaces that are not engineered or optimized
for cannabis odor control. All Byers equipment is equipped with automation capability through its proprietary
cloud-based SCADA system for remote control, management and monitoring.

The use of supercritical fluids (SF– in particular carbon dioxide (CO2) – for the extraction (SFE) and processing of
foods, nutraceuticals and botanically-derived products, has had over a 50 year history, beginning in the late 1960’s.
This webinar will highlight the presenter’s experiences beginning in 1968 to the present day, with a discussion
showing the connectivity between SFE’s application in the above fields and its present day use in processing
cannabis and hemp substrates. Tradeoffs in employing SFE-processing are defined by the relationship between
selectivity/throughput/efficiency whether it is used for the above-mentioned products and/or its application to
cannabis/hemp. This relationship often accompanies the performance of SFE at pressures/temperatures under
5000psig/100 C, which are the limitations built-in to commercially-offered welded technology SFE equipment.
However this range of conditions can be used effectively to enrich targeted botanicals and foodstuffs that can be
“combined” with cannabis/hemp extracts to provide “enhanced” consumer product compositions. Examples of this
theme will be provided, e.g., enriched antioxidant extracts obtained using CO2/SFE, such as
turmeric-enhanced/CBD compositions, as well as the use of other “green” pressurized fluids, such as ethanol and
water. This “multi-fluid” approach can be used separately, sequentially, or consecutively to obtain mixtures
that provide multiple health benefits. Many of the additional processing options using a critical fluid such as CO2
remained untapped with respect to their application in the cannabis field. These include fractionation operational
modes, reactions in CO2 (e.g., isomerization), production of fine particles for more effective drug –type delivery,
and control of micro-organisms. Finally a summary review of extracts provided by this approach for combing
with cannabinoid/terpene-laden extracts which will enhance their commercial use and provide value-added profitability
for companies producing cannabis- and hemp products.

The hot cannabinoid of the moment is Delta-8 THC. It’s a psychoactive compound—as in, it gets you high—that’s legal
in most states. Or, if not legal, then at least widely available. It’s in a bit of a gray area.
The structure of the law—everything hemp is legal except THC—created what’s seen by many producers as a loophole that allows the production and sale of Delta-8 THC, because it’s ever-so-slightly chemically distinct from the banned
